VERSITRON FOM II Series Models F242x T1/E1 modems are designed to operate as point-to-point converters or as copper to fiber interface extenders. These devices provide full duplex, or simplex data transmission at 1.544 Mbps and 2.048 Mbps, at distances up to 20km with fully transparent operation. ANSI T1.403, AT&T TR54016 plus AT&T TR62411 standards as well as CCITT G.703 and G.704 standards are supported. Electrical signals on copper cable are converted to f.o. signals by the F242x units, and AMI/B87ZS or HDB3 data protocols are decoded.
The F240x devices are exceptionally user-friendly, with switch settings to select the preferred interface. The F2422 model is used with multimode cable for distances up to 2km (1.2 miles). The F2425 model is used with singlemode cable for distances up to 20km (12.4 miles). Both models utilize LC optical connectors.
Installation options include the VERSITRON FOM II style Model HF1 single-card standalone enclosure, the Model HF2SS dual-card, rack-mount chassis, and the Model HF20A 20-slot, rack-mount chassis. Both chassis will fit in a standard 19 inch communication rack.
The F2422 and F2425 products can also function as multiplexer "port cards" when installed in VERSITRON'S VMX20 chassis as part of the Versimux II mux platform.
Devices installed in either the HF1 enclosure or the HF2SS chassis are powered by AC to DC power adapters. Devices installed in the HF20A chassis or VXM20 chassis are powered by the Model AC300WR rack-mount power supply/system monitor. This unit also supports power redundancy for those mission critical applications.
These products typically operate with 14dB link margin when using 850nm optics and 62.5/125 micron multimode cable. With 1310nm optics and 9/125 micron singlemode cable a link margin of 19dB can be expected.
To accommodate quick low cost system expansion and enhancements, the F2422 and F2425 Group employs the latest FPGA technology. The products transmit and receive data using a proprietary VERSITRON encoding scheme. The T1 interface extenders provide binary 8-zero substitution (B8ZS) and alternating mark inversion (AMI) data format conversion, while the E1 interface extenders provide high-density bipolar order 3 (HDB3) and AMI data format conversion. Other features include status six indicator LEDs for power on (PWR), alarm (ALM), transmit data present (TXD), receive data present (RXD), bipolar violation (BPV), and loopback mode indicator (LOOP).
